In response to “Open Payments” reports recently released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services under the Physician Payment Sunshine Act, Dr. ElAttrache would like to inform his patients that the data, especially that posted under the category of “General Non-Research Related Payments,” is especially misleading if presented without context, as it currently is. To help patients better understand the reports, he would like to provide the following information:

  • Dr. ElAttrache is a world leader in research, education, and product development in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine.
  • Dr. ElAttrache holds U.S. patents on implant technologies and products that help surgeons treat thousands of patients every year. The rights to these patented technologies and products have been assigned to Arthrex Corporation, a quality company with which he is proud to work. He is not paid to use any products on patients.
  • Dr. ElAttrache is compensated on the assignment of rights to his intellectual property; however, he has no financial incentive to use his products. The royalty calculation absolutely excludes the use of those implants on his patients or patients operated upon at a facility where he is on staff.

Dr. ElAttrache truly believes that there is great societal benefit to transparency when considering potential conflicts of interest in regard to physician relationships to industry. He hopes that the data provided to the public for this transparency is given informative context thus strengthening the public trust in the medical community.

For more information or any questions regarding this, please contact Dr. ElAttrache’s office by calling (310) 665-7257.
